Beautiful Nuristan is full of breathtaking views, horses (my favorite animal!), giggling children, and now, brand new water systems! From high in the mountains, UNICEF Afghanistan brought clean water straight to the doorsteps of 100-year old villages who never had it before. πŸ’™

100 days after earthquakes struck western Afghanistan, UNICEF is calling for greater support for over 96,000 children affected in the aftermath, as a crippling winter grips the country. bit.ly/3NZsw3J

Saeed Khanum's dedication to her girls and their futures is the epitome of a mother's love! She used cash assistance from UNICEF Afghanistan to buy books, notebooks, pens, schoolbags and pay for her daughters' school fees. Delighted to have met this family and captured their story. ❀️

My heart goes out to Zalaikha, her family, and the thousands affected by the recent flash floods. It feels so unfair that the children of Afghanistan must endure such frequent disasters and crises. πŸ’”

The recent floods in Afghanistan pose an urgent and persistent threat to children. UNICEF calls for greater investment in preparedness and climate resilience, to both protect children from future disasters and strengthen the basic services they rely on. unicef.org/afghanistan/pr…

I love reading stories about Afghan women written BY Afghan women. πŸ’™πŸ’›πŸ§‘ Highly suggest giving this piece a read, which beautifully captures Zahra's dedication as a Community Health Worker in rural communities. Here, many children have no other option for healthcare than Zahra!

One of my favourite pieces to write! I love helping other people tell their stories, especially dedicated women like Sakina. And if we all nurtured our communities like her, the world would be a happier, healthier place.

Behind the scenes... meeting Sakina, Fahima and Raihana! Stay tuned for their stories ✍️ about how a UNICEF Afghanistan learning centre brought them together.

Time for you to meet Sakina, Fahima, Raihana and their classmates! Loved these girls. Of course they are learning to read, write and become math geniuses. But I was struck by the less tangible, but just as important, lesson they learned: confidence. unicef.org/afghanistan/st…

It's a little overwhelming right now, but don't give up - because millions of children still need us. To speak out for them. Work with them. Tell their stories. Who is there to keep fighting? Help others stay strong? Look for the positivity? Well... I AM. #foreverychild

I remember this day. As heartbroken as my UNICEF colleagues and I were, I wept for the girls whose videos we'd seen that morning, crying outside their schools. Every girl deserves an education. Yet for 2.2 million girls in Afghanistan, secondary is still not an option.

I have to admit, I’ve often taken a clean and hygienic environment for granted. But when I penned Rahmatullah’s story, I realized just how powerful community action can be in creating healthier spaces for everyone. Read my latest from Afghanistan! πŸ‘‡

Many Afghans have recently been returning to their country from Pakistan. Nearly two-thirds are children. UNICEF and partners are at the border to support them but global funding cuts are limiting critical services. UNICEF is determined to stay. Join us: unicef.link/4ksS73r

Hanging out with Mahnaz outside a UNICEF Afghanistan nutrition center! Don't worry, this cheeky little 4-year-old is doing just fine. Her mom just came for a UNICEF cooking class! She's learning to prepare more veggie-packed, protein-filled meals for her growing kids. πŸ₯• πŸ… πŸ₯š

Amena lost so much in last year's floods, but we were able to restore a little bit of joy to her life by rebuilding her school - her happy place. Moments like these make me especially proud to work for UNICEF. Check out my latest storyπŸ‘‡
