Sitting home, eating dinner while watching the Cubs game is not how I expected to learn that news. Can’t even begin to explain how much Sandberg and the Cubs meant to me as a troubled young teen in the 80s. RIP Ryno.

Yes, just about every Sunday for lunch after church ⛪️ with my parents as a pre-teen in the late 70s (steak 🥩 was OK but really remember the hot rolls) 😋

In a stroke of perfection, Ryne Sandberg & Harry Caray debuted with the Chicago Cubs on the same day, also hung it up on the same day.

RIP Ryno! I just don’t know what to say about this. Getting to know you and Margaret on our flights to Cooperstown was always amazing. You teasing me about being my wife’s favorite player ever. You were always a class act. You will be missed by my family and so many others! 🙏🏾#23

"Ryne Sandberg was a heck of a good guy, and it's just heartbreaking that his life should be cut short this way." Bob Costas, who was on the call for the "Sandberg Game", remembers Ryne Sandberg.

Paul Sullivan writes: Ryne Sandberg was more than just a ballplayer. He was a man who changed a team, which transformed a neighborhood, which helped turn a bandbox ballpark called Wrigley Field into a mecca for baseball fans for decades to come. trib.al/jFOeakU

Great memories of rushing home from school 🏫 in April, May & September to watch the Chicago Cubs and my favorite player, Ryne Sandberg (and Manny Trillo before him as I played 2B) … and I’ve met fans from coast to coast who were Ryno fans, too, because of day ⚾️ WGNTV R.I.P. Ryno 🪦

“The Sandberg Game” was so great to watch live on NBC Game of the Week in 1984, which propelled Ryno into the MVP race as he led the Cubs to the NL East division title…funny 🤣 thing was Bob Costas named Willie McGee (hit for cycle) the player of the game before Ryno took over

🙏 Prayers for my family (especially my mother-in-law) and friends in Hawaii 🏝️ … my MIL isn’t in the so-called “tsunami zone” as she’s about a mile from Kailua Beach 🏖️ on the windward side of Oahu, but better safe than sorry 🙏
