One of the exquisite (and huge) 'thistle-brooches' from the #Viking Skaill Hoard, deposited on Orkney, c. AD 960-980. The animal art lies somewhere between Jellinge and Mammen styles, and is paralleled with Manx stone crosses from Kirk Braddan. (Graham-Campbell 1976) My 📷

Two of 8 #Viking 'ring-money' silver arm-rings found at Kirk o' Banks, Caithness. Ring-money = silver penannular ‘currency’ rings of Hiberno-Scandi or Baltic origins, the Scottish version of which first appeared in a datable context in Orkney's Skaill hoard, deposited c. 960-80.

#Viking silver broad-band armring from Blackerne, D&G, SW Scotland. Possibly a Southern Scandinavian 'prototype' version that was developed into the larger Hiberno-Scandinavian type seen in the Galloway Hoard. Deposited c. 900, it was found with an amber bead in a cist burial.
