1 in 4 NHS mental health beds are now run by private companies. The plan has always been to starve the NHS of funding, create a crisis and then hand over care to profiteers. We must reject privatisation by stealth and keep the NHS public. bmj.com/content/390/bm…

The GMC says it can issue cease and desist notices or refer people for prosecution if they're "practising medicine without registration"....yet also claims that defining "practising medicine" is not within its role 🤔 How can a regulator police what it refuses to define?

It then assigns 'tiers' of practitioner. Again, note the language and the equivalence. Fully trained consultants and GPs are Tier 3. The same as pharmacists. Pharmacists have NO role in the diagnosis and treatment of asthma. Let alone severe, acute asthma. 5/

How is it the national regulator for medical practice in the UK is unable or unwilling to define what it regulates? Does anyone have a clue what they ARE regulating then? Any ideas GMC? How are you not embarrassed?

Dear public, THIS is what the government’s 10 yr NHS plan is… 🚩 dismantling the practice of medicine 🚩 REPLACE doctors with other HCP “to deliver task based care” Money over lives. This thread is absolutely shocking!! What is the government thinking?!

@medicalmodelwithabriochebun Royal College of Emergency Medicine what’s the point of specialty training programmes and exams any more? This is infuriating. There isn’t enough work for us all. Drs are being replaced and you have enabled it and endorsed it.

The sheer amount of energy, resources and funding devoted to finding every possible way to avoid simply employimg more Drs is astonishing.

So who is regulating this ACP to work in a role traditionally undertaken by doctors working a reg level? It isn't the GMC. Presumably their base regulator? Is that legal?

Medicine is officially dead in the UK.. CCT if you can and flee. Go somewhere that still values standards and Education. Somewhere that values the hard work and the commitment needed to deliver high quality clinical outcomes. That values actual Drs.

The GMC is supposed to exist to protect the public by regulating doctors - just as, say, that other exemplary regulator, OFWAT, keeps our rivers so pristine & pure. In my opinion, the GMC’s failure to strike off Malhotra is one of many examples of regulatory failure. The GMC

It is criminal that doctors graduate with 100k of student debt and start on just over £18/hr. What's worse is doctors need to earn £97k just to start reducing debt because interest is piling on faster than repayments. This is punitive and needs reform. share.google/f1Xa7Obsvj9hpV…

I have been working as a doctor for two years. With repayments, I don't even cover the interest on my loan. My balance sits at £106k and it will continue to grow, acting as a graduate tax for most of my working life. A clear area of angst amongst my generation of doctors.

20 years ago the only real difference between going private & NHS was choosing your consultant, waiting a little less and getting a nice ☕️ The 10 year plan makes it pretty clear you might not even see a Dr in the NHS now, let alone a consultant Two tier … … is here 🤷‍♂️
