We're joined today by speakers Prof. Marie Segrave (Monash University); Sophie de Rohan (Refugee Legal); Prof. Manjula O'Connor; Michal Morris (@inTouchVic); Nuria Alarcon Lopez (Harmony Alliance); @JulianaNkrumah17 AM (SSI) & presented by our CEO, @[email protected] to discuss the #BlueprintForReform

40% of women on #TempVisas have experienced #DVF in Australia, yet they are often invisibilised in reports and DFV data sets. - Nuria Alarcon Harmony Alliance #BlueprintForReform #NAG #NationalAdvocacyGroup

Some #MentalHealth aspects of being on a #TempVisa: victim-survivors don’t know if they can stay in AUS; if they've rights here, they've no knowledge of where to access proper health. They're in a state of acute fear, panic attacks, a sense of abandonment, PTSD... Manjula O'Connor

Recognise that all #TempVisa holders need to have the ability to access a visa to stay in AUS (& not only those in a provisional pathway) for up to 3 yrs to pursue legal & family law cases & sort out their life rather than push them out to their origin of their country Marie Segrave

#TempVisa holders who experience violence are often caught in 2 awful options: remain in a life-threatening situation with a perp or end up in poverty/ homelessness as access to social security, free public health & housing support are linked to their visa status. Sophie de Rohan

We know there're processes, but the bar is so high for #TempVisa holders that they can’t get through & access them. We need to address this. Any woman that's experiencing #DFV must have access to these supports to recover & this is what the #Blueprint is asking for Michal Morris

"Currently, there is no pathway that is connected to #DFV. Someone on a student visa, for example, cannot access a different visa because they're experiencing DFV. We detail in the Blueprint that we need a bigger safety net of an automatic short-term visa for all". Marie Segrave

Our podcast recommendation: Listen to SBS Australia’s Settlement Guide podcast and the episode What happens when you report non-consensual sex or rape in Australia? to hear more about the complexities survivors face when seeking justice. loom.ly/-h_v62M
