Sex refers to the biology of someone when they are born. Most people are either male or female and 1.7% of the population are #Intersex, an umbrella term for people born with sex characteristics that are not typically male or female or are a blend of both. #30DaysOfPride #LGBTQIA

Gender is separate from biological sex. Gender identity is the way a person identifies internally and can be the same as their sex (cis) or can be different to their sex (trans). Identity can also be non-binary, that is it doesn't sit comfortably with man or woman #30DaysOfPride

Gender expression refers to how a person represents themselves to the world. Whilst gender identity is the internal sense of gender, gender expression is how they choose to express their gender externally through the way they dress, mannerisms, pronouns, etc. #30DaysOfPride

The definition of #bisexual has changed over time as non-binary genders have been recognised and accepted. Currently, a widely accepted definition is 'a romantic/sexual attraction to people of the same gender and people of different genders' #30DaysOfPride

The term #Pansexual became popular in the 1990s and is an attraction to any/all genders. There is confusion and overlap between bi and pan definitions but both are an attraction to plural genders. Many identify as both bi/pan #30DaysOfPride

Today we launched our Women’s Staff Network A great turnout; over 50 colleagues attended to hear CEO Simon Constable talk about why we have established a fifth staff network and give their views on what they want the network to achieve for women working at WHH WHH Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

This is fantastic for our Trust and the many great women who work WHH 🏥 - really excited about working with this new staff network on issues like the gender pay gap and making our senior medical leadership roles even more accessible to our female consultants and SAS docs 👍🏼
