As Mothering Sunday draws to a close, we think of all the mothers in Afghanistan who are unvalued, unseen and unheard. May the Taliban remember that they were born of women, that they are nothing without the mothers who gave them life. They won’t of course. But we can.

“On their way they were stopped at two more Taliban checkpoints, each time detained for long periods because they were travelling alone. They did finally reach the hospital, but Nasrin had not survived the journey.” theguardian.com/global-develop…

Today someone knocked on the door and when I went to open it I saw a Taliban member. I was terrified. But when he uncovered his face, he wasn't a Taliban member but my youngest brother returning from school. It was his new school uniform.

Arezoo’s dreams were crushed when she caught the eye of a Taliban fighter. It was not long before the Taliban fighter pressured Arezoo’s family into a forced marriage. Just like her name, Arezoo’s dreams remained only dreams that would never be realized. jurist.org/features/2025/…

Alida is 20 years old. She lives in Afghanistan, and she’s the mother of three. When her family ran out of food, her husband offered to sell one of his kidneys. But Alida said no. “I stay at home. I don’t earn money,” she says. “It should be me.” Too Young to Wed

Why is this marked as a “parody account” X Support when it clearly isn’t? Afghan women have a hard enough time being heard without you making it even harder for them.

Latest in the Voices of Afghanistan series. “We, the female doctors—once symbols of women’s progress, ability, and independence—are now facing barriers, threats, and silence. Many other women are in the same situation.” jurist.org/features/2025/…

Tawazon has reported that the Taliban banned 130 local education classes for girls in Logar province, following their earlier actions in Paktika province. These classes were supported by UN agencies. The decision has deprived thousands of girls of their right to education.

We are urgently raising funds for a widow/mother of small children in Afghanistan to have a life-saving operation. She has sold all her belongings and neighbours have gathered what they can to help, but a shortfall remains - please give if you can: gofund.me/4c87bca6
