Peter Hitchens was right about this deranged superpower projection. China is light years ahead of us. You might as well line up the 10,000 men you can scramble to 'protect Taiwan' and have them shot. It'd have the same outcome.

You can see the machine working here. Wikipedia summary decorated with vague academic keywords the way you would decorate a CV. One vague concept leading to the next. No explanation of the 'prism.' Could be published in a magazine, but would be an indictment of that magazine!

A pointless speech. The Tory who should have repudiated Truss was Rishi Sunak, outside No 10, on the day he became PM. He should have kicked her out of the party and apologised to the nation. But he didn't. Now we are fourth. Nobody has heard of Mel Stride. Nobody cares.

Nonsense. The cab rank rule is as honoured in the breach as the observance. Just observe the decision Philippe Sands (a vg advocate btw) made re: Pinochet. Robert Jenrick at no point and in no way argued for denying *anyone* legal representation - disagree yes but don’t distort

BBC notices Denmark's non-insane immigration policy about 10 years late. Love the bit about whether the policies have been a success. 'On the one hand, asylum applications are down. On the other hand, Denmark's reputation for respecting international law has suffered.' Tricky!

Our third annual conference, The Start-Up Society will bring together the thinkers, builders and reformers wrestling with how to recapture the spirit of innovation and progress. Below are some of the exciting speakers joining our line up this year…🧵(1/7)

When I say politics is broken I mean that it is no longer a plausible way of solving collective action problems and it is too far gone to repair itself. None of these political games matter much because the jig is up, and probably soon.

Think Labour and Tory MPs probably deluding themselves a little bit if, as some posts on here suggest, they have taken tonight's news as a cue to stop worrying about Reform...

William Atkinson (@wtmatkinson) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This is the crucial point. Reform are on 30 per cent because people hate Labour and the Tories for failing in very similar, obvious, and basic ways. But Farage and co are just not serious people. At least the Tories have one or two MPs actually interested in fixing things.

More deranged constitutional meddling from our wretched, historically illiterate political class. Something else to be reversed.
