Thank Max for a wonderful talk. Social DNAing will hoste Dr. Basto from Institut Curie to discuss how cells keep up with chromsome number increase? Sign up at cancer.columbia.edu/research/progr…

Could animals have originally evolved by cell aggregation? we believe they could!. And here we have two publications that provide food-for-thought on this issue. Two different relatives of animals aggregating and deploying key multicellular genes. Nice collaboration with

UCSF Cellular Electronics Minicourse enters the analog realm - are cell signaling pathways digital or analog or what?? How can we use electronics to measure and control what cells are doing? Next week: how to convert molecular signals into electrical signals and vice versa!

Cellular Electronics minicourse week 3 - today: oscillators and the venerable 555. Building a pulse generator that we’ll use on Friday hopefully to communicate with a cell!

Final day of the UCSF Cellular Electronics Minicourse - interfacing cell with circuits. Students built pulse generators using the 555 timer chip and were able to trigger a contractile response in Stentor cells. I am so impressed by the students - Great work everyone!!

experiencing an alien Umwelt: i built a bat monitor (based on a design online) that heterodynes with a local oscillator to shift the ultrasonic pings into an audible range. It works!! I tried it last night and when a bat flew past I could hear a series of dolphin-like clicks!!

They say people and their dogs start to look alike, but that isn’t the real problem. The real problem is when you and your dog start to think alike

does anyone know an example of sequential molecular scaffolds - for example in phage assembly there are scaffold proteins that aren't part of the final structures. but are there examples where the scaffolds get built on other scaffolds, that also aren't in the final structure?
