Congratulations to Irosh & Oleksii Dubovyk who received Bob Ake Scholarship Awards from Coastal Virginia Wildlife Observatory; Irosh won the Virginia Society of Ornithology Murray Award; Ella D (She/her) received Best Grad Student Oral Presentation at the 2025 Atlantic Estuarine Research Society meeting!

Congratulations to Chi Wei and Oleksii Dubovyk, who were awarded conference awards from ODU College of Sciences and ODU Biology Dept. to attend the American Ornithological Society annual conference in St Louis and the Ecological Society annual conference in Baltimore, respectively.


Our lab is leading a ODU Biology Dept. study away @oduabroad class on the Social Vertebrates of California. Todayβs field trip to Point Lobos State Natural Reserve included a chance to view sea otters, seals, sea lions, Brandtβs cormorants, and a host of other species.


Our ODU Biology Dept. Social Vertebrates of California class was out at AΓ±o Nuevo State Park today. We had great looks at elephant seals, harbor seals, California sea lions, pigeon guillemots, western grebes, pelagic cormorants, and a host of other species.


Iβm excited to announce that Iβve been named the ODU College of Sciences Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs. This will give me an opportunity to help the 225+ faculty, and their 7 department Chairs, continue the academic excellence that is the hallmark of the College of Sciences at Old Dominion University!

The Marsh Mistress (aka Ella D (She/her)) outside the Elizabeth River Project Ryan Resilience Lab. Ella serves as the Environmental Project Manager and was giving ODU College of Sciences ODU Biology Dept. Old Dominion University Biology Professor Eric Walters, her PhD Advisor, a behind-the-scenes tour of this incredible facility.
