Today I remember those who fought and who fell, so that we could have our liberty and freedom.

Absolute honour to be elected as the Member of Parliament for my home, marginal constituency of Wolverhampton West, with a majority of nearly 8,000. So grateful, and humbled by the trust that people have put in me, whom I will serve with integrity, determination and commitment.

Being sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Wolverhampton West was a very moving experience. It was a long, hard struggle to get here, but I am now here with a job to do.

Last week I attended the launch of the WLV Business Link Network at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park, discussing collaborative working, to assist students and graduates of the University find employment and opportunities with local employers and businesses.

Met with the Council today and meeting Carlsberg Marston's Chief Executive next week regarding their plans to close Banks’s brewery. My maiden speech stated, I will work "with others to encourage Marstons to continue our city's 149-year tradition as a major brewing location".

Having been a social justice solicitor and trade union activist for over 30 years, it is a huge honour for me to be elected to the Justice Select Committee last week. Access to justice, the state of our prisons and the delays in our courts system, are particular concerns.
