2HG have been taking part in a special computing day learning all about algorithms using Beebots. We can program them to follow directions and make predictions. It will be 2LW's turn tomorrow.
It was 2LW's turn at computing today. We used Bluebots to create algorithms , follow commands and avoid obstacles. We worked well with our partners to make our Bots turn and move, plus predicting the end position. We also used the app ion the Ipad. What fun!
In numeracy Year 2 have been looking at statistics and data. This afternoon we collected our own data by completing a tally chart, during our minibeast hunt. We will analyse our findings using iPads tomorrow.
Observational skill were being used in Year 2 today when we produced some amazing line drawings. We used magnifiers to carefully observe pen and ink minibeasts illustrations to create our own specimens.
Mrs Walker's group have been reading The Giraffe, Pelly and Me by Roald Dahl in Guided Reading. They have been working hard on their vocabulary, retrieval and inference skills.
Year 2 are investigating the life cycle of butterflies and have just received the pot of real caterpillars so we can see how they grow first hand. Today they are tiny black caterpillars that we hope will grow, so we can watch each stage!
WOW! Our caterpillars are really starting to get huge after just one week! We will watch to see what happens tomorrow. We predict that they might start to travel to the top of the pot on Friday, to start turning into a chrysalis.
Year 2 have been using chalk on the playground to illustrate the story Caterpillar's Shoes. We enjoyed drawing the characters and discussing the story.
In art this week we have been creating ants out of egg boxes. Yesterday we painted them, today we added legs and mandibles and tomorrow we will label the features of our ant in our books.
What a celebration! Year 2 performed to their families this morning, sharing their memories, looking back at photos from throughout the year and sang two of their favourite songs. We all loved looking back what what amazing things we have done in Year 2.
In Design and Technology, Year 2 have been making their own glove puppets. Today we have been threading our needles and sewing the outside of our puppets.
Year 2 completed their DT project designing and making hand puppets. They cut out pieces of felt to create the animal features and glued them onto the puppet. They all had fun making them and will take them home to play with them.
Year 2 have been exploring the school grounds today. We worked in pairs to find signs of nature including textures, shapes and colours of plants, trees and signs of animals.
Year 2 used leaves, twigs and stones to create minibeasts pictures. They worked in pairs and made pictures including bees, snails and butterflies. They then shared their work with friends, explaining the parts of each creature, including legs, wings, thorax and abdomen and head.
