Amazing news from Greenland 🇬🇱 where a Sanderling is incubating her precious eggs and about to turn 15 years old! 😳 More here ⬇️

One success! By my calculations (based on BTO paper), we need 10,000 extra #Curlew chicks to fledge every year, if we're going to halt decline in UK numbers. More here: wadertales.wordpress.com/2021/06/12/mor… Mary Colwell Kane Brides Dr Samantha Franks Curlew Country

Most of our #Curlew from our Eastern shore study site on #theWash breed in Sweden and Finland, and occasionally have brief stop offs over the 1000 mile journey to their breeding grounds. We have a few records of birds spending winter elsewhere in the UK.

🙏 for red-listed French #Curlew. Hoping to see publication today of order prohibiting hunting of Curlew in France through to end of July 2024. Background and what this means in practise (many are still shot 😡) wadertales.wordpress.com/2018/07/30/bla… #waders #shorebirds #ornithology

Great work Bethany Wilson 😁 A nice selection of birds here and more of their story discovered thanks to colour ringing AND people like you reporting their sightings! Top job 👍

A Curlew caught as part of this project was originally ringed on the Wash - so great to catch one of 'our' birds on the breeding grounds. #Curlew #ornithology #waders

New publication in Wader Study contrasting winter feeding strategies between Bar-tailed Godwit and Curlew, and associated habitat use on the #Wash. Read more in our blog outlining on how WWRG fieldwork made this possible wwrg.org.uk/curlew-and-bar…

We are devastated by the sudden and untimely loss of one of our long-standing members, Mark Smart, who died in his sleep on Saturday 3 February. We will miss him terribly. Our thoughts are with those closest to him. wwrg.org.uk/mark-smart

It's the WWRG AGM today! It is amazing to see how much so many members do to keep our work going! There were 2198 birds caught in 23/24, 600 resightings of flagged Curlews, a house rewire, scientific papers published, and new projects starting! Fantastic work, everyone!

Nov weekend success! Our team managed over 290 resightings of over 130 individual Curlews, Turnstone and Bar-tailed Godwits. This included birds marked by WWRG in the #WashNNR and by projects elsewhere. Fantastically, this included 17 headstarted Curlews (yellow-leg flags)!
