29 years ago today, the Blizzard of 1996 started in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. It’s one of only three snowstorms to be rated a category 5 on the Northeast Snowfall Impact Scale (NESIS). Up to 4 FEET of snow fell! Who remembers?

As Meta announces the end to professional fact-checking, please -please- accept finally that social media is not a viable way to get factual information. It was a noble experiment. It failed. Traditional journalism, while imperfect, is the way. Please pay a little bit and use it.

I was the TV writer for National Journal Hotline at the time and we took a lot of jabs for not having an edition for a couple of days. Of course, what most people didn't realize was that we were almost all 20-somethings fresh out of college who couldn't get to our nondescript office in NOVA.

The idea an APR "is almost mandatory" is ludicrous and puts up a false barrier to people entering the field from other backgrounds. I know and respect many APRs, but I also know many APRs who have melted in today's information environment because they lack Real World experience.

Garamendi: I was shocked to see the Speaker suggesting that federal assistance would be conditioned. I would remind that gentleman that $120 billion has gone to Louisiana over the last 20 years, dealing with the tragedies, Katrina..

The cover that needed no words. Legendary photographer Heinz Kluetmeier passed away last night. Our industry has lost a GIANT! RIP Heinz! 💔

COMMENTARY: FEMA's administrator, a longtime Coloradan, is being attacked as a "DEI hire" because she's a woman. Here's how we straight white guys, regardless of politics, should respond to that trendy slur.

Bill Burr NAILED it about the LA fires on Jimmy Kimmel last night: “I think they did a great job, unlike the internet.” “Mismanaged…like some person on the internet knows how to manage the worst fire in LA, sitting there in his underwear.” Watch this.

RIP Photog Heinz Kluetmeier. I love how the hockey stick of the USA player (is that McClanahan?) serendipitously aligns with the flag in the crowd to make it appear he is waving it.

In an age of rampant misinformation and deliberate disinformation, please search out credible sources for factual information. This pertains to the world of water as well. npr.org/2025/01/15/nx-…

I worked at Loudoun Water for a couple of years, which is right next door to Commanders Park (or whatever it's called now). During my time there, the bubble went up; I think it was in 2011. I called it "The Bubble of Suck." It's not anymore.

My "Early 2025" speech schedule is out. I had a few things - and thanks - to say about it since I'm speaking about a WIDE range of #water-related #COMMS topics in 11 states. linkedin.com/posts/mike-mcg…

In normal California units is about 16,000 acre-feet, enough to irrigate about 3,000 acres. Alas, this water would have been released to serve these same acres later, in the season when useful for the irrigation season. No relevance for fires. See: sjvwater.org/decision-to-du…

Elon Musk is now presiding over the cabinet meeting. They're not beating the co-president allegations. (And co-president might be putting it charitably for Trump.)
