Great to be out doing #fieldwork today at #Corrour, #monitoring our #montane Scots #Pine planting & mycorrhizal inoculation trial WITHOUT the use of fencing. Rather chuffed with how well these trees have fared in the year since planting up here above #LochOssian at 500m altitude!

Had to wait a bit to post this until both were confirmed, but my other 2 finds from this particular job that I was gey chuffed with were Sphagnum majus & S. affine, neither of which I’d seen before so it was great to pick them out! #Corrour

Aspens are popping up across Mar Lodge, often far from the nearest mature trees. Of our 89 individual stands, 35 are comprised solely of wee trees! This is showing us that this precious species is expanding its range across the estate.

These photos are of the same Downy willow, with one taken in September 2021, and one in December this year. Snow cover is important for montane willows as it provides protection for the plant through the long winter months, and also a flush of nutrients in the spring.
