On the 3rd day of the EUVIP_project summer school, Prof. Michaล Lubina delves deeper into #Myanmar's recent history and politics. ๐ฒ๐ฒ He revisits the democratic transition in 2011โ2015 and examines the wide-ranging impacts of the 2021 coup on Myanmar's society & politics. ๐


On the final day of the EUVIP_project summer school, we hosted Prof. Lidauer. He discussed #elections and their functioning across different political regimes. ๐ณ๏ธ He also provided insights into various Southeast Asian electoral processes, like those in Thailand & Myanmar. ๐น๐ญ๐ฒ๐ฒ



Prof Catherine Renshaw delivered a powerful keynote speech "Burma/Myanmar and the United Nations: Hope, Hypocrisy, and Betrayal". She provided insights into the complex relationship between Myanmar and the UN. ๐บ๐ณ๐ฒ๐ฒ Her address captivated the audience and caused critical discussions.


A heartfelt thank you for all the support weโre receiving for the newly created ๐๐ฒ๐๐ง๐ฆ๐๐ซ ๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ข๐๐ฌ ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ (MSC@UP)! Today, the Interdisciplinary Myanmar Conference began, and participants Edgard Rodriguez are generously bringing us books and kind words of encouragement.


The EUVIP_project was honoured by the presence of the Filozofickรก fakulta UP๐๐ Univerzita Palackรฉho dean and the Department of Asian Studies' head at the Interdisciplinary Myanmar Conference's inauguration. ๐ They spoke about the Czech Republic's ties with Southeast Asia and warmly welcomed everyone. ๐จ๐ฟ


๐ข๐ฃ๏ธ Tharaphi Than & @izzysaja from EUVIP_project consortium presented at the Interdisciplinary #Myanmar Conference 2024. They discussed urgent needs in higher education, focusing on institutional, faculty, and student responses to military conscription. ๐ซ


The EUVIP_project's Interdisciplinary #Myanmar Conference 2024 concluded with a touching speech by @VickyBowman3๐ข She fondly remembered her #Burmese language teacher, Anna Allot, who had strong ties to #Czechia, having lived in Boskovice near Olomouc with her Czech mother๐ฒ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฟ


EUVIP_project members Alfred Gerstl & Kristina Kironska, too, gave a heartfelt closing speech at the conference, bidding farewell to our first intern Yumon Htay from #Myanmar and expressing gratitude to our co-organizer, @MyanmarInstitut Mia Kruska.

๐ฌ๐Our EUVIP_project member Alfred Gerstl delivered an engaging lecture to 50 students at the Graduate School of International Studies at Seoul National University. It was a fruitful collaboration, paving the way for an even stronger partnership with SNU through the Erasmus+ program! ๐

๐ขAt the ACAS conference at Filozofickรก fakulta UP๐๐, EUVIP_project member Karin Zackari from Asian Studies, Lund University presented her research on #Thailandโs state repression post-2014 coup. ๐Her study examines 2 key trends in managing dissent, highlighting a balance between accommodation & repression.


EUVIP_project member Tabita Rosendal (ๆ่ฅๅธ) from Asian Studies, Lund University presented her research on Sri Lanka as a case study for #Chinaโs Belt and Road Initiative. Her work examines the #BRIโs progress, challenges, and impact over 10 years, focusing on Hambantota Port & Colombo Port City.


EUVIP_project members Renata Westlake & Federica Cidale attended an informative lecture on China's political system by Marina Svensson at Asian Studies, Lund University. This event highlights the valuable knowledge exchange between our partner Asian Studies, Lund University and Filozofickรก fakulta UP๐๐ 's young researchers.


Today, EUVIP_project members Renata Westlake & Federica Cidale attended University of Canterbury Ann-Marie Brady's keynote speech, "Facing the New Geopolitics" The talk explored Asia-Pacific's evolving security landscape, touching on the South China Sea, Xi Jinping's influence, and hybrid warfare


๐๐ฉโ๐EUVIP_project members Renata Westlake, Federica Cidale from Filozofickรก fakulta UP๐๐, & Fanny Hockers from @UCLouvain_be presented their #PhD research and received insightful feedback from all present: Paul O'Shea, Tanguy Struye, & Prof. Brady from University of Canterbury.


Last but not least, EUVIP_project member Tanguy Struye from @UCLouvain_be delivered a lecture on Biden's administration strategy in the Indo-Pacific, highlighting how the US employs integrative, multilevel leadership to shape regional norms and social processes.
