Today we celebrate the feast of St Benedict of Nursia, Patron of Europe and Father of Western Monasticisim. Here, Benedict is pictured in the Chapel of Ss Gregory & Augustine, the Benedictine Apostles of Britain. St Benedict, pray for us.

And so it begins! All 1,800m2 of the vast Nave floor will be restored in sections, to allow the liturgical life of the Cathedral to continue, ending in September. Thank you to the Friends of Westminster Cathedral, and to all who donated so generously.

Today we celebrate the feast of St Mary Magdalene, pictured here above the confession box as a penitent entering the Pharisee’s house where Jesus was a dinner guest. St Mary Magdalene, Apostle to the Apostles, pray for us.

Pictured is an artistic impression, by artist Gilbert Pownall, for the tympanum behind the Great Rood. Installed in the early 1930s, it was inspired by the 5th century mosaic of Christ enthroned between the Apostles in the Roman Basilica of Santa Pudenziana.
