Do you recognise any of these saints? On the gospel side of the Lady Chapel, facing the apse, nine lesser-known (at least in this part of the world) saints devoted to the Mother of God gaze in adoration at Christ enthroned on the Tree of Life. Any guesses who?

Pictured is an artistic impression, by artist Gilbert Pownall, for the tympanum behind the Great Rood. Installed in the early 1930s, it was inspired by the 5th century mosaic of Christ enthroned between the Apostles in the Roman Basilica of Santa Pudenziana.
