All 8th grade teams have the opportunity to visit the Durham museum this week to expand their knowledge on a soldiers perspective from WWI. This correlates with the unit they just finished in Language Arts. Below are some pictures from 8B’s visit.

8th Grade Band and WHS Wind Ensemble performed at their Winter concert tonight. So much talent and hard work was displayed tonight.

Westside Middle Schools show choir season has started with a bang! Congratulations on the last two competitions!

8B scientists have been learning about how light and sound waves interact through reflection, refraction, absorption and transmission. To show what they learned about each vocab word, they created a demo of their own to model what that word looks like in the world around us.

Honors Algebra students completed a “Who-Dun-nit” activity by using their knowledge of exponent properties to simplify expressions. They rotated through five crime scenes to figure out the who, where, and why.

Thank you for protecting our country!  This was one of the many messages written by Westside Middle School homeroom students who created valentines for our veterans.  The cards are displayed at the Omaha VA Medical Center.

Congratulations to the following WMS students who were all selected to the 2025 Wayne State College Junior High Honor Band that took place on Saturday, January 25th at Wayne State College.  It was a full day of making music with 110 other students from around Nebraska.

8th grade science students are learning about genetics and heredity. They played Jenga to simulate the ups and downs of mutations to learn how some mutations to an organism's DNA can be helpful, harmful or neutral.

8B students had a blast playing a variety of yard games for Fun Friday. We are all very excited for warmer weather so we can enjoy playing again outdoors!!

HOPE Squad's February event was hand cutting over 1,000 paper hearts for our annual display for each child in our building. Happy Valentine's Day Warriors!

8A students enjoyed a delicious three course meal in Language Arts! Students participated in handing out goodies to celebrate class friendships and discussed all things love in A Midsummer Night's Dream. What a wonderful way to celebrate student learning and Valentine's Day!

Congratulations to WMS 8th grade student, Isabella B., who was selected to perform with the Nebraska Wind Symphony All-Star Clarinet Concert on Sunday, February 23rd.  Way to make WMS proud Isabella!

Congrats to WMS students Isabella H., Clarissa K., Audrey M., and Naima R. who were selected to the 2025 Blair Middle School Honor Band that was heldon Saturday, March 29th.  Guest conductores were both highly accomplished composers Robert Sheldon and Chris Bernotas.

Our 8th graders just finished an awesome project on endangered species! They dove into research, got creative, and shared some eye-opening facts to help spread awareness about protecting these animals. Posters were created for over 400 different species!

WMS Girls Track Team had their last practice before the Conference Meet. Girls team did an anything-but-a baton relays and kickball game against the boys team. Good Luck to both the Girls and Boys WMS track team at the Conference Meet on Friday, May 9th!
