The RRS Sir David Attenborough is now heading south. A clear blue sky and 40+ knots of wind mean the sea is a little feisty this evening

How do you get a team of scientists onto a remote, somewhat inhospitable, island in Antarctica. Put all their kit into Terror, the Sir David Attenborough cargo tender, and send it ashore to a suitable beach. In 40 days we will be back to collect them

We successfully managed to get all our camping equipment on Seymour Island, tomorrow we leave the comfort (and internet connection) of the Sir David Attenborough to set up our camp and start our fossil hunting!!

It's our last night of comfort on the Sir David Attenborough before heading off for our camping and fossil collecting adventure.

Here are some more photos of our field season on Seymour Island, Antarctica. We were looking at community change in the Eocene (around 56-34 million years ago) and the K-Pg mass extinction (66 million years ago). British Antarctic Survey 🐧
