Progress Update - The repairs have been completed & water levels monitored on the canal section closest to the East Wichel housing. We were happy with the results so the bunds have now been removed! We are still working on the sections where leaks have been found further west.

An eventful start to the morning on the canal in East Wichel as we start clearing some of the vegetation using an amphibious vehicle. This should hopefully tidy up the section we have been monitoring / repairing.

It’s tree planting season at Wichelstowe! Around 400 of these large trees and thousands of smaller whips and hedge species are being planted over the next couple of months. This represents tens of thousands of pounds of investment into Wichelstowe’s green infrastructure.

Officers from our Highway Assets team are investigating and repairing a sinkhole that appeared on the bank above a culvert carrying the River Ray below the Wilts & Berks Canal in Wichelstowe. 🌊 A temporary dam has been put in place. Thanks to the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust for alerting us.

We love the canal at Wichelstowe and are delighted to be building more!   This week Wichelstowe JV and our contractors Fox (Owmby) will be starting work on extending the canal from East Wichel to Mill Lane. This will be the first step in connecting to the District Centre.
