It’s our final round of Nature or No Nature! Keir Starmer, you’re up again. Nature in the UK will thrive or fail based on your government's decisions. This huge responsibility lays with you and it cannot be ignored. So, our final question to you:

Labour’s Planning Bill lets developers destroy vital habitats—then ā€œoffsetā€ the damage by paying into a fund. No local restoration, no real accountability. Experts call it a ā€œlicence to kill nature.ā€ Even Natural England’s head says claims behind it lack evidence.

On my walk a pair of little ringed plovers (at distance), fairly uncommon birds in Scotland. Of course it wouldn't be a proper walk without brown hares. These two must have been thinking they were rabbits as they basked at the entrance to rabbit burrows.

The ducks rescued at day-old didn't mind the rain yesterday. They're happy to have a preen and a snooze on the grass. They now fly off at dusk to places unknown and return just after first light for breakfast

Not had red squirrels in the garden for a few months but here are some young squirrels from earlier. The netting, with a few larger holes in it, are to allow wee birds in but exclude jackdaws. The bottom is open to let the birds out quickly and to allow red squirrels to get in.

One week ago, 246 pilot whales were brutally killed in the Faroe Islands, including pregnant mothers and calves. Chased for over an hour, many suffered for up to 30 minutes before dying. This is cruelty. It must end. We are calling on the Faroese Government to ban this hunt.

My walk today was a bit different, taking me among farm buildings where there were nesting swallows. It was a nice warm morning for insects so the chicks were being well fed.

Sparrowhawk caught a young blackbird this morning. Held it a couple of minutes till it was dead then flew off with it to pluck and eat it elsewhere.
