Some excellent fish creeping going on here! Dr. Christopher Hemingson and Robert Streit found 5 damselfishes they had tagged over 2 years ago - within 2 meters of the original spot! What have you done through the last 2 years? These fish stayed put and munched on plankton. #HomeSweetHome

Our #Honours #students Casey Bowden and William Collins gave their first "project evaluation seminars" today! This officially kickstarts their #degree! And guys, you both did great! We're proud of you. Really great talks and visuals throughout and exciting research plans! (1/5)

So how can William Collins study #reef #fishes after dark? Using his #NIFIS of course! They're *Nocturnal Illuminated Fish Identification Systems* aka GoPros and LED lights in jam jars! Simple tools, fancy use = really cool science! Looking forward to seeing first results! (3/5)

#Congratulations to our senior #Honours #students William Collins and Casey Bowden for being able to breathe a sigh of relief! They just delivered their final #seminars after months of #fieldwork, #analysis & #PowerPointPrep Great work and presentation styles, both of you! 🤓🥳

Collin Williams (Dr. Collin Williams) meet William Collins (William Collins). Are you long lost brothers? Both #PhD students in #reef #fish #ecology...

🚨New paper alert 🚨 Our most recent #Doctor Chris Hemingson's (Dr. Christopher Hemingson) latest #PhD #paper is out today in Global Change Biology! doi.org/10.1111/gcb.16… Chris works on the #colours of #reef #fish and asks: Are fish getting duller, if #corals die? To learn more, read on👇 (1/6)

Will (William Collins) and Casey (Casey Bowden) joined us as #LabManagers, went on to heir #Honours degree and now just started their #PhDs. Geesh, you guys really stick around don't you 😉 Congratulations on your #Honours #degrees! #FirstClass, no less!! 🎉

#Congratulations Casey Bowden on your very #first #publication!🎉🥳📜 It was a pleasure to join Casey, Sterling Tebbett and The Bellwood Lab for some #3D #FishCreeping to find out were blennies rest, feed, and poop. Excited to see where your #PhD is gonna take you, Casey!

In Lizard Island for the first #fieldtrip of the 2022 Lizard Island Doctoral Fellowship I was awarded to investigate the coral recovery dynamics on post-bleach coral reefs. Very excited to see this project happening. LIRRF Reef Function Hub @CoralCoE James Cook Uni

New #OpenAccess paper in Ecology and Evolution! It's William Collins's 1st #publication 🎉👏 With The Bellwood Lab & Renato Morais, Will studies *the other 50%* of #fish #ecology: Fish at night! 🌛🌚🌃 They examined the role of #nocturnal #fish in #reef #productivity doi.org/10.1002/ece3.9… 👇🧵

Need to keep your entire lab busy? Study sediment! 😍NEW PAPER🥰 It's a big collaboration effort, lead by Dr Jodie Schlaefer (Jodie Schlaefer) Out now in #MarineEnvironmentalResearch (Elsevier Environment) Find out more below ⬇️🧵, and the paper here: doi.org/10.1016/j.mare… @CoralCoE

A big lab-wide collaboration #paper is now published! "A snapshot of sediment dynamics on an inshore coral reef" doi.org/10.1016/j.mare… Find the Reef Function Hub 🧵 below for more!

Hello #ASFB2022! 👋🐠🐟🐡🦈🎣 Conference Day1 !! 🎤😃 Come along this arvo, for talks from our #PhD students Will & Pooven, and our recent alumn Dr Chris! William Collins, Pooven Muruga, Dr. Christopher Hemingson Between them, they'll talk on 🌟nocturnal predation colours🌟😮 ASFB

Congrats William Collins on nailing your first conference talk! #ASFB2022 Will presents his research on a reef condition occuring 50% of the time, once every 24h!! Night. And nocturnal fish! And shows an amazing photo of the reefs he studies (📸👉⬛) doi.org/10.1002/ece3.9…

Great PhD Confirmation Seminar by William Collins! So much achieved already and so many cool plans! Fave slide: why is nocturnal ecology lagging behind daytime ecology? One reason: ecologists are diurnal animals. 😃 Congrats Will! 🎉🎈

Growth drives life! How has the evolution of growth shaped one of the most diverse vertebrate groups - coral reef fishes? New paper out today in nature by co-1st-authors Helen Yan, Alexandre C Siqueira with Renato Morais, The Bellwood Lab ⬇️🧵 (1/6) doi.org/10.1038/s41586…
