Very sad to hear that Colin Renfrew has passed away. A brilliant champion for Archaeology and author of THE book on British Prehistory.

The label identifies this rock as a 'portion of the under part of the altar stone of Stonehenge taken by Mr Browne of Amesbury while excavating in the summer of 1844’. It is part of the The Salisbury Museum collection and recently helped to identify the source of the Altar Stone 🔎

This necklace would have once featured an impressive 1000 amber beads 😍 It was likely made in Denmark or the Baltic coast, but was discovered in a burial mound 8 miles from Stonehenge. 🔎 You can see it on display at Wiltshire Museum
