The Madwoman in the Classroom TEACHERS WHO ARE NEW TO TEACHING OR NEW TO A SCHOOL, in my professional opinion that goes for you, too! I just had to deal w a new teacher about this. Relationship building is a CORE NECESSITY for effective teaching & therefore, student skill acquisition & appropriate behavior.

The Madwoman in the Classroom ESPECIALLY if you are not of the race, culture or class of your students. The teacher who I had to deal with is downright destructive to those children, her disciplinary rate disproportionate to all of her colleagues, even the best academically performing students frustrated.

The Madwoman in the Classroom You cannot run up in a school and take no time to observe, listen and understand the school environment and the students' needs beyond your lesson plan that was formed without knowledge or applied wisdom stemming from the social, cultural and academic needs of your students.

The Madwoman in the Classroom That teacher's predecessor was EXEMPLARY. She was an exceptional teacher, and what made her an exceptional teacher was not just her instructional prowess but cultural competency, her course organization and student expectations that factored in student life outside of school &👇🏾
