Across the UK this is good news. Along with representation, we’re looking for feminist, anti-racist, wealth redistributing policy so that women beyond Westminster can benefit from this change.

First woman in history to have this job. Now it’s about delivering a feminist and equalities driven economy that works for the most marginalised women across the UK.

The 2024 general election saw record numbers of women elected and the cabinet has the highest number of women in history. But there is much more work to still do; tackling sexual harassment and misogyny in our politics for a start.

We see it hasn’t taken long for women newly in political high office to face misogyny and classism for their clothing, their accents, their audacity to dance alongside charities at pride marches, and generally just daring to exist. It’s 2024, move on already.

Election after election after election we disproportionately see men sent to the seats of power. Why? There’s a bias in our system. We need to fix the system! A worthwhile read from Julia Gillard - theguardian.com/world/article/…

Inclusion Scotland (@inclusionscot) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Inclusion Scotland emphasises the need for a Parliament that works for everyone - including events being accessible for disabled people. We want Parliament to work with disabled people to make sure ALL events are fully accessible. Not just those 'about' disabled people.

This is welcome, but it needs to be delivered alongside a programme of accountability and change to tackle the hostile cultures inside our politics that prevents women, especially marginalised women, from being involved.
