This is England-focused but the issues in Scotland are the same. So this is your regular reminder that the best grounding for anyone to have so as to be open to a career in forestry is to grow up on a woodland croft. Would be nice to see the industry recognise their potential.

Lots 4, 5 & 7 look ideal for woodland crofts - definitely 'interesting opportunities' worth considering. Highlights the need for Scottish Government to take on a 'land banking' role to give the community - of place or interest - time to organise.

Disappointing to see Scottish Government introduce a support scheme which includes crofters, but which apparently excludes *woodland* crofters, especially after this very issue has previously been highlighted (and acknowledged) wrt CAGS. In terms of crofting law, or were you to ask Crofting Commission, woodland crofters are no different from any other crofters. The grant system has yet to catch up however. Highlights a growing sense that 'official' support for woodland crofts on paper is not translating into actions.
