The UK has been a strategic partner for Morocco since the 13th century and is a UN Security Council member, which makes this position shift particularly favorable for Rabat.

As much as I would love to see a Muslim Shia mayor in the US, I feel so many liberals are engaged in the fetishization of Muslim bodies and identities rather than giving them a fair chance based on their electoral campaigns and qualifications.

Summer Reading. I have been looking for this book, which provides a critical historiographic overview of the scripture that shaped Islam, by Mohammad Ali Amir-Moezzi and Guillaume Dye. Finally my dad managed to order it for me!

My best acquisition this summer is a hardcover of “Kitab al-Istiqsa li-Akhbar duwal al-Maghrib al-Aqsa” by Ahmad ibn Khalid an-Nasiri, published in 1894. It was the first comprehensive national history of Morocco from the Muslim conquest to the reign of Moulay Abdelaziz.
