The story differs for rural girls… Among kids from poorer backgrounds, rural girls go on to achieve *lower* personal income levels than urban girls. This is linked to gender roles, including earlier ages at marriage, childbearing, lower college rates etc 5/8

And a lot of this is high-skill labour. The South now contributes more high-skilled labour to the world economy than all the high-, medium- and low-skilled labour contributions of the global North combined.
