Enjoyed writing this News & Views in Nature Chemical Biology with Zhipeng Li SN Sarah Morris. Rohatgi Lab Stanford Biochemistry identifies enzymatically regulated phase partitioning by the lipid droplet-associated hydrolase LDAH as a drug activation mechanism. nature.com/articles/s4158…

Berkeley: Yes, farmers markets, plant nurseries, golfing, pickle ball, tennis, rideshare services, construction, etc... all essential! What about biomedical research labs w/ staff trained in PPE use and sterile procedure? Berkeley: "Extends shelter in place order indefinitely"

James Olzmann (@olzmannlab) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Hot take: Working in an academic research lab that would adhere to PPE, hygeine, reduced staff, disinfecting, testing, and social distancing protocols is safer than going to the grocery store.

After being closed for 98 long days, our lab at UC Berkeley is finally open again! (with reduced personnel density / capacity and extensive safety measures in place) Yay! Let's make some discoveries! #lipiddroplets #ferroptosis #ERliterature #lipotoxicity

Our review is finally out in Developmental Cell !! It was fun writing it during the shelter-in-place. Highly recommended to everyone interested in #lysosome,#autophagy, #mTOR. Plus, I think it's very well written :-p Couldn't have done this without Roberto Zoncu

Happy belated 10 year birthday to #Ferroptosis!! @SJD956 Brent Stockwell published their seminal ferroptosis paper in Cell on May 25 2012. 🎂🎉🥳 Interesting to reflect on how the field has progressed and what the major questions are moving forward. doi.org/10.1016/j.cell…

Other parents: 😍 Me: Ok, pay attention class. For the last time, lipid droplets are ER-derived neutral lipid storage organelles that functions as cellular hubs of lipid metabolism… (mine is on the far right 😊)

Excited to share our preprint describing the identification of several new FSP1 inhibitors that sensitize cancer cells to ferroptosis!! 🎉 This study was spearheaded by grad student Joseph Hendricks and was a terrific collaboration with Julia Schaletzky. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Great to see that our FSP1 inhibitor (FSEN1) is already available from Cayman Chemical. Hope that this new inhibitor will be a useful tool for the #ferroptosis field! caymanchem.com/product/38025/…. See our bioRxiv preprint for more info - doi.org/10.1101/2022.1… (pub coming soon!).
