Scientists with at least one child aged five or younger have seen their research time fall by 17 per cent during the coronavirus pandemic, with women more heavily affected, a survey of US- and Europe-based academics has found. bit.ly/3exjW7G

Proud to see Queens' doing their best to make good of such an awful situation. I applied (and studied) here almost solely because of its comparatively high state school intake. Wouldn't have got in under the algorithm.

Some of the replies to this are so disheartening... why spend so much time/effort/money encouraging access to STEM if entry level jobs are unfeasible for people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds?

It doesn't matter how many times I see this statistic, it still always gets to me. 25 Black women professors. In the whole of the UK. 25.

Feels surreal that three days ago I was celebrating the powerful women in my life, and their strength and independence. Today, we've been sharing ways to stay safe on a run or walking to the shops, and promising not to go alone. #SheWasWalkingHome

i’ve just seen this from BPS DoN: bps.org.uk/member-microsi… as a clincial psychologist - and a brown woman working in the extraordinarily white middle-class world of neuropsychology - i acknowledge that it’s a start. but (there’s always a ‘but’ isn’t there?)

I'm so pleased to see this, I was shocked by the number of people (academics included) who didn't understand why I couldn't "just do a masters" after undergrad. Don't even get me started on £70 application fees.

It’s great to see more young people than ever accepted to uni. However, areas which already had high rates of participation have seen the most gains, with less of an increase in areas where few have tended to go onto HE. Entry gaps have increased from 24 percentage points to 28.
