Richard Turner and colleagues from Cambridge University Cambridge MLG ETH Zurich put together a very interesting piece of work on Gaussian Processes and Variational autoencoders, namely "Sparse Gaussian Processes Variational Autoencoders" arxiv.org/pdf/2010.10177… I highly recommend it!
