If you want a measure of the scale of the transatlantic rift, consider this: I am told yesterday was the 1st time since 1945 the US voted with Russia & against Europe at the UN on an issue of European security. Just let that sink in. 1/4

When ⁦Daniel Finkelstein⁩ writes of Steve Bannon’s Hitler Salute it should command all our attention. Bannon denies it was suich a thing, of course, Danny (Finkelstein) disagrees.

Respectability in dress is stupid bc it masks the issue. Such judgements are rarely about the clothes, but rather about the bodies underneath. Would Trump and Vance acted politely if Zylenskyy showed up in a suit? Unlikely. No one raised an issue with Elon in t-shirt and topcoat.

All across Europe, presidents and PMs are publicly expressing their supporting Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський. Literally dozens of them. They do this not in response to another outrage from Putin but the President of United States. This is a remarkable moment.

Benjamin Franklin wearing a coonskin cap while being received by the French court. "Proper" attire at the time would have been a powdered wig, but Franklin enjoyed playing up his "rustic" American identity. On these trips, he asked for military support for newly independent US.

Dangerous moment for Ukraine and Europe. Trump is essentially saying publicly and brutally what Biden said behind closed doors: the war is unwinnable on maximalist terms and there won’t be US security guarantees beyond arming Ukraine. 1. Zelensky went to the Oval to sign a deal

Jaw-dropping revelations in The New York Times on the most recent Trudeau-Trump calls. Report says that Trump, alongside rehearsing familiar list of grievances against Canada, told Trudeau he wanted to revise the US/Canadian border. He offered no justification.

Recent palace spin: “It has been six days of royal diplomacy at its most delicate, deliberate and nuanced”. Is Private Eye correct in suggesting that the Zelensky meeting was driven more by Charles, than Downing Street?

📣 Some news about me: Yesterday (Wednesday) I was detained by police in Istanbul, held for 17 hours and then deported from Turkey to the UK. Told I was “a threat to public order”. In the country I lived in - and love. Journalism is not a crime. Here’s the BBC’s statement:

The utter weirdness of life as a royal on display. An estranged father and son use their spin doctors to begin the process of reconciliation - a process that was conveniently captured on camera when the three royal aides sat outside for their top secret meeting.
