We know CPM can find better ways to protect public media than cutting more talent and local knowledge. You can share your thoughts on this with CPM or let them know what our newsroom means to you via this form. We’re told the board will review responses. page.wbez.org/protect-public…

Here's a little update — I'm one of the Sun-Times staffers who took the buyout after 5 1/2 years of working here. For those who have followed my work, you know it was an incredible experience ♥️ Thanks for the support If you know of any short/long term work, please let me know!

CTA slow zones have grown so much in recent years that now nearly 1/3 of the “L” is speed restricted. A key culprit? Aging and deteriorating tracks. “When you’re trying to get to work or an appointment, it can be a real setback for folks” chicagotribune.com/2025/03/16/cta…

Guild co-chair Nader Issa in Crain's Chicago Business today: "We've done our part. Now we need Chicago Public Media to do its part by securing more revenue and, if there needs to be cuts, cut non-labor areas in the budget."

since we’re putting our #MugsUpForPublicMedia: a reminder that the folks at the Sun-Times (me included!) could be notified of layoffs tomorrow. to #ProtectPublicMedia, we need more journalists — not less! that’s why Chicago Sun-Times Guild is calling on the CPM board to find non-labor cuts.

Our union received the bittersweet news today that there will not be any layoffs at the Chicago Sun-Times. But 16 beloved Guild members have taken buyouts, as have several non-union newsroom colleagues. This is the biggest hit to our newsroom in at least 12 years.

We're losing friends, mentors and cherished colleagues with decades of institutional knowledge that can't be replaced. We have serious questions about what the future might bring, and we continue to call on Chicago Public Media management to do its part in sustaining our work.

Chicago cops took in hundreds of guns at a buyback event in December 2023. One stood out: a .45-caliber Glock that soon went missing. Almost a year later, records show the same gun was found on a 16-year-old boy. chicago.suntimes.com/the-watchdogs/…

Are you a Chicago resident who saw your property taxes skyrocket the last few years? I’m looking to talk to folks for a story on both the appeals process and shifting tax burden between businesses/homeowners, so reply or send me a DM if either applies and you’d be interested!

The Sun-Times Guild is aware of the third-party “summer guide” content in the Sunday, May 18 edition of the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper. This was a syndicated section produced externally without the knowledge of the members of our newsroom. 🧵👇

We take great pride in the union-produced journalism that goes into the respected pages of our newspaper and on our website. We’re deeply disturbed that AI-generated content was printed alongside our work.

Chicago Sun-Times Guild (@cstguild) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The fact that it was sixty-plus pages of this “content” is very concerning — primarily for our relationship with our audience but also for our union’s jurisdiction.

Chicago Sun-Times Guild (@cstguild) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Our members go to great lengths to build trust with our sources and communities and are horrified by this slop syndication. We call on Chicago Public Media management to do everything it can to prevent repeating this disaster in the future.
