Wes Streeting The change the NHS needs is paying its workers properly. You can't expect doctors to continue to accept being paid less than they were before. If you don't want strikes, then why did you refuse to negotiate with the Resident Doctors?

So you’re saying; 🔸Full pay restoration is a journey not an event. 🔹Full pay restoration remains your plan. Sounds like we’re on the same page! So let’s just knock up a quick contract for an inflation-linked multi-year pay deal to map out the journey in full, yeah? Job done

The Government has broken their promise to restore doctors pay. Wes Streeting called the previous deal the first step on a ‘journey’ to fair pay, but his award of an 0.9% real terms rise would take doctors *over 20 years to reach 2008 pay levels*. He has failed to hold up his

It’s such a shame because you were so close to bridging the gap. You promised a journey to pay restoration but at this rate it’ll take 20 years. You can go further faster. It’s a drop in the ocean. You’re not going to derail. But you are going to stall at this rate.

3 years later, a different govt yet the same old story of doctors pay subsidising the NHS. Wes Streeting resident doctors have had enough. Pay doctors what they’re worth or they’ll be on the next flight to Australia ✈️ Vote YES for #FullPayRestoration

Saying we can’t afford to pay doctors is the same as admitting we can’t afford the NHS. That’s literally the same thing. If we can’t afford it, we can’t have it. £23/h for a fully qualified doctor. That’s the demand. Their assistants are paid £24 already. Get a grip.

If the Government can’t afford the staff then of course it can’t afford the service. It should be no surprise that the service doesn’t run.

Yes and both times you did not commit to negotiate a way to restore our pay erosion. Our pay will remain 21% eroded this year. What happened to a journey to fair pay? The NHS cannot afford to lose a single doctor. Patients deserve better. Work with us. Pay us to retain us.

Dr Tal Ellenbogen (@tal_ellenbogen) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Wes Streeting So you met to tell them you won’t negotiate and offered to meet the entire committee to tell them you won’t negotiate with them either? Are you just a more sociable Steve Barclay?

James Steen (@bma_james_steen) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Meeting with negotiating partners whilst point blank refusing to negotiate, as you are in this post, is utterly meaningless. Negotiate an inflation-indexed multi-year deal; it’s the solution. You get no strikes, your waiting lists down and to spread the cost of pay restoration.

Dr Robert Laurenson (@roblaurensond4p) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Wes is a charming fella and is pitching as the reasonable party. But here is a short thread on what you need to know about why strike action is the only way to keep this Government honest.

Harry (@waterman_harry) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Reality: Resident Doctors need the largest uplift as their pay has been eroded by the greatest amount Meeting the chairs to say you will not negotiate a way to restore our pay is meaningless - in your own words “the power to stop these strikes lies solely with the government”

Conveniently left out doctors - suffered the highest real terms pay cuts - will still be 21% behind on pay even with this year’s award You could offer an increased award, a route to FPR, or heck just to negotiate You choose not to. Shame for putting politics above pragmatism
