Science Twitter is fun, useful, and really nice—no, really by Dylan T. Burnette Dylan Burnette ascb.org/careers/compas…

Neat preprint from Brett Collins, Blessy Paul, Hanaa Hariri & others using crystallography & Alphafold to dissect architecture of SNX-RGS proteins. Surprisingly, two domains appear to fold together forming a new lipid binding/transfer module. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

A highlight from Blessy Paul in Nature Metabolism on work from the Wolfrum lab. Interesting study that dissects PEX2 as a sensor of cellular ROS to fine-tune ATG-mediated lipolysis. nature.com/articles/s4225… You can read the original Ding et al study here: doi.org/10.1038/s42255…

Congrats to Brett Collins & Blessy Paul! Paper suggests novel lipid binding module in SNX-RGS proteins via PXA-PXC domain interactions at interorganelle contacts. Great example of Alphafold solving riddles we've struggled to experimentally resolve. doi.org/10.3389/fcell.…

Attending ASBMB and interested in interorganelle crosstalk? Attend the organelle signaling session Sunday Apr 3 9:30-11:30 Rm126A. Hear about work from Blessy Paul, Brett Collins, Henne_Lab and others about the SNX-RGS proteins and their roles in interorganelle crosstalk

Super proud of grad student Natalie Speer Natalie Ortiz Speer 🇨🇷🇪🇨 who will give a talk at American Society for Cell Biology Symposium "Metabolism from Cells to Organisms" this Dec! #ProudPI Interested in how proteins 'label' specific lipid droplets & dedicate them to specific functions? See Natalie's work!

Many thanks to Deborah Wormser and the UTSW Media Relations Newsroom for highlighting our collaborative study on the phase transition properties of cholesterol. utsouthwestern.edu/ctplus/stories…

At ASCB #cellbio2022 & interested in lipid droplets? Check out some LD talks! ASCB is a great venue for trainees to speak! see Natalie Ortiz Speer 🇨🇷🇪🇨's talk on LD functional diversity see Rupali Ugrankar's talk on LD-cytoskeletal crosstalk see Mike's talk on liquid-crystalline LDs

New preprint! Led by Natalie Ortiz Speer 🇨🇷🇪🇨, here we characterize yeast protein Bsc2, showing it localizes to a sub-population of lipid droplets (LDs). Our data support a model where Bsc2 acts as a 'triglyceride sensor' on a LD subset to regulate lipolysis. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Extremely proud of grad student Natalie Ortiz Speer 🇨🇷🇪🇨! See her paper, now out in Journal of Cell Biology, where she characterizes a regulator of lipolysis that decorates TG-rich LDs. rupress.org/jcb/article/22…

Lipid droplets exhibit many functions including energy storage organelles & metabolic buffers. Did you know they also likely serve as optical light filters in chicken cone cells? Learn about this & more in this interesting paper now out in Developmental Cell. cell.com/developmental-…

Excited about our preprint led by the amazing Blessy Paul w/ collabs from Jeff McDonald (UTSW) and Steve Farber (Johns Hopkins)! Here we characterize the paraoxonase-like enzyme APMAP, showing it helps maintain lipid & lipoprotein homeostasis @ the ER. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
