Excited to finally get R10.4.1+Q20 & looks like Oxford Nanopore only assembly is the way to go. Major yield & accuracy boost a bonus to our upcoming effort to sequence all of family Drosophilidae (Dmitri Petrov @danrdanny @danielrmatute Darren Obbard is bluesky Hannah Gellert Michael Eisen et al)

So impressed by our first Oxford Nanopore PromethION runs (P2 solo) prepped by Katie Solari and Hannah Gellert. Zebra blood gDNA + ligation kit 14 with minimal tweaks. Barcoding workflow needs tweaks for read length but getting tons of data doing 8 Drosophila samples at a time.

Dmitri Petrov and I have been working with amazing Drosophila collaborators to broadly sequence the diversity of this group. We believe it is now technically feasible to sequence all >4,400 species, and have organized a #Dros23 workshop to engage the community in this effort.

Tayras (Eria barbara) are definitely one of the more underrated mustelids, and I always love to see them on the WCS Guatemala Program camera traps ๐ our local population here in Petรฉn has this unique full โhoodโ of blonde fur, which makes them especially cool!

Super excited to be going with Katie Solari and Hannah Gellert from our lab to gorongosa.org to start our #nsf funded project with Robert M. Pringle. We will use genomics and fecal genotyping to help understand the eco-evolutionary dynamics of the rewilding of this jewel of a park.

We are generating genomic data for all #Drosophila stock center lines as a open resource for the community. Oxford Nanopore + resequencing + transcriptome. Huge week-long effort by an amazing group Augusto Santos Rampasso Kyla O'Hearn Emmanuel D'Agostino Lidane Noronha @afmata_2 Asha Jain @YazBraimah

With Hannah Gellert, Sam Church, Anton Suvorov, Dmitri Petrov and others, we use low-input (down to 30ng), single-insect Oxford Nanopore sequencing to help do 184 new genomes and address the near absence of genomic data for drosophilid species that cannot be cultured in the lab.

Excited to share our new preprint on snow leopard genomics - the culmination of a years-long collaboration across the snow leopard community Snow Leopard Trust Panthera WCS Snow Leopard Foundation in Kyrgyzstan and PCG_Stanford Dmitri Petrov @_ellie_cat Simon Morgan biorxiv.org/content/10.110โฆ ๐งต
