Quite an important moment for Circle U., we arriving at the end of the SwafS project “Empowering R&I Actions”. But as research-intensive alliance, it is not the end but just the continuation of our ambition for Science.

💬 Emily Palmer Brussels SecGen of Una_Europa: “We have used the SwafS project, knowing that the funding will not very repeated, to develop a joint strategy for the future of R&I cooperation”.

💬 Ivanka Popovic, former rector of Univerzitet u Beogradu and Board member EUA: “There is a sort of ‘gender fatigue’ and universities focus now on ED&I. But gender equality is far from being a reality, including in universities.”

💬 Knud Warming senior advisor at Aarhus Universitet: “We all (universities) face challenges in recruiting, supporting and retaining young talents. But more than a challenge, it’s our obligation to offer perspectives to early-career researchers, particularly outside the academia.”

💬 Emily Palmer Brussels, SecGen of Una_Europa: “Our focus has been to develop initiatives for the most and just a few researchers. Therefore, with our alliance we have develop joint doctoral training programmes, particularly on supervision.”

Great to have a packed room for our cross-alliance SwafS event! Pilot II European University alliances discuss achievements, successes and challenges in developing R&I activities. A perfect occasion to engage with our key partners on the future of the alliances! 👍🏻

💬 Jorge Molina, project advisor at European Research Executive Agency: “With the many joint initiatives launched by alliances and your cooperation? you have contributed to increase the resonance and the impacts of SwafS projects.”

First ‘Walk & Talk’ session on human capital 🧑‍🔬👩‍🔬👨‍🔬 Alliances including EC2U Alliance of European Universities EUniWell Aurora EURECA-PRO Circle U. and ENHANCE Alliance share key results and impacts but also lessons learnt and ways forward.

Mette Halskov Hansen, VR Universitetet i Oslo shares the lessons learnt from ERIA: “Supporting a few ECRs to make connections is a first step. But we need more for an institutional transformation. The sandpits we have developed have a great potential to achieve this transformation.”

Very interesting discussions on the lessons learnt and challenges met by alliances with their SwafS projects. As underlined by Mette VR Universitetet i Oslo and Circle U., the main challenge is how to scale up our initiatives that have been targeting only a limited number of researchers.

We resume with ‘Walk&Talk’ session 2️⃣! Colleagues from EELISA European University Alliance FilmEU - European University RUN – European University EUNICE European University Univ. Montium UNIC Transform4Europe Alliance of European Universitie European University of Technology share their initiatives as well as the challenges they met in developing and implementing joint R&I strategies.

As underlined by several alliances’ representatives, in particular Lies Van de Vijver of FilmEU - European University and @LUCASchoolofArt, SwafS are not offering a one-time opportunity for our researchers but to propose a strategic path for R&I collaborations.

Always great to meet back “old” colleagues from my “Bologna time”. As usual, Frank made a very accurate point about the current budgetary situation of the EU and the Member States and how this will impact the future of the alliances.

Important and intense meetings for Circle U.! Rectors/President, VP/VR research, VP/VR international, “local” coordinators and students have exchanged the last two days on crucial issues: our R&I agenda, new Knowledge Hub on AI, ED&I strategy, EU policy engagement.

Some 80 students, professors, coaches met this week at @UCLouvain_be for the Circle U. entrepreneurial change-making programme. Feel very privileged to be in the jury and hear 10 fantastic pitches from students on the innovative ideas they have developed in the last months! 👍🏻

They are the CHANGE-MAKERS! Congrats to these students, their coaches and professors 👏🏻 And a big applause to Amélie Jacquemin et Viktoria Nagy for making this programme possible! 🙌🏻
