Delighted to hear from Sir Michael Marmot at The ALLIANCE conference on Scottish child payment ‘On the back of a five fold increase in destitution in recent years I don’t know how much more evidence you need that giving families more money would be helpful.’





While hypothetical questions have limitations - we know from our work with Joseph Rowntree Foundation that a sizeable chunk of Labour voters would at least consider voting for another party if Labour failed to tackle the cost of living and hardship many to parties on the left, but Reform too




🧵Spoke to Ayesha Hazarika earlier about the two child cap & why, leaving aside the moral case, I think the political case for scrapping it is stronger than appreciated. It's a good e.g of where headline polling only tells part of the picture & obscures more than it reveals


This shift in Jobcentre culture & priorities would be very welcome, but the positive agenda set out in last year's DWP White Paper is going to be so much harder to realise in the context of the benefit cuts & increased conditionality announced since then theguardian.com/society/2025/m…
