Delighted to hear from Sir Michael Marmot at The ALLIANCE conference on Scottish child payment ‘On the back of a five fold increase in destitution in recent years I don’t know how much more evidence you need that giving families more money would be helpful.’

In partnership with the Crisis Support Working Group, today we are publishing this inquiry report in the future of local welfare assistance schemes. Local crisis support is a vital safety net for those experiencing financial hardship – including unpaid carers. (1/3)

While hypothetical questions have limitations - we know from our work with Joseph Rowntree Foundation that a sizeable chunk of Labour voters would at least consider voting for another party if Labour failed to tackle the cost of living and hardship many to parties on the left, but Reform too

Ahead of Liz Kendall’s speech today – a quick thread on why the welfare state isn’t collapsing and why deep cuts to disability benefits aren’t the answer. (1/9)

🧵Spoke to Ayesha Hazarika earlier about the two child cap & why, leaving aside the moral case, I think the political case for scrapping it is stronger than appreciated. It's a good e.g of where headline polling only tells part of the picture & obscures more than it reveals

This shift in Jobcentre culture & priorities would be very welcome, but the positive agenda set out in last year's DWP White Paper is going to be so much harder to realise in the context of the benefit cuts & increased conditionality announced since then theguardian.com/society/2025/m…

Today's #PensionCredit figures reveal an increase in successful applications. Sadly, this is still a drop in the ocean compared to the latest take-up numbers which show there are almost a million eligible older people not receiving this entitlement. independentage.org/news-media/pre…

I respect Lord Blunkett but this article really doesn’t hang together. 2 child limit doesn’t stop people having children, there’s no reason to believe lifting it would boost fertility. It achieves nothing except higher poverty & preventing kids having a fair start in life.

NEW: Lifting the two-child limit and the benefit cap will immediately lift 400,000 children out of poverty, and 950,000 children will be living in less deep poverty.

What the end goal of our elected leaders should be isn’t complicated. Any political party who pledges to do something about low living standards will be on to a winner
