NIH While the indirect rates have in general been to high, it reflects that the direct costs have not been inflation-adjusted for decades. If you do this, put the money back into direct costs that actually fund the research. This is a total disaster for all universities.

🧵 Many “hot takes” about the reduction of NIH indirect grant costs to 15%. Let’s lay out the facts about the university grant management process & accounting. And then use this to project likely short and longer term impacts of the policy.

A pretty sensible and not hyperbolic take on what may be ahead for biomedical research. The most optimistic version may be researchers now control a larger % of the total award, but my god I already hate dealing with line item budgets

💵 💵 ➡️ 📊🧬 Great point re the need for better inflation-adjusted direct costs (and enhancing the actual budget for performing the research itself).

Achieving #4 ranking in Anesthesiology for NIH funding is a testament to the collective effort of our entire team and shared commitment to advancing medical science. It truly takes a village to foster an environment that not only promotes research but also supports the intricate
