Today is a very special day UCC Ireland ! The university was formally opened on 7 November 1849 by the first president, Robert Kane. Queen's College Cork initially opened with 23 professors & 115 enrolled students. The 3 founding faculties of the new college were Medicine, Arts & Law.

Condolences to the friends and family of Michael Longley. A great poet whose words will live (as he was fond of saying about others) as long as the language will live.
