Clean energy & policy stuff. Talking about that, media, Massachusetts, and some other stuff too. Glad my work and interests align, but views are my own.

The United States is about to walk off the field, ceding a major economic lever for the 21st century to China. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

It is *unhinged* to post this while Congress is actively working to increase taxes on American energy producers and gifting manufacturing to China. Unhinged.

Every line of this piece prompts just a bit more shock that we're actually about to do this to ourselves. washingtonpost.com/climate-enviro…

This is a very bad bill. As a separate note I have long appreciated the distinctively American fact that one of the major steps in the process of passing landmark legislation these days is called the vote-a-rama.

This is welcome and good to hear, but it’s a bit frustrating to hear this message — which has been voiced by others in his own industry and for that matter many outside of it too — coming now, so late in the game.

Given debates on building energy infra and the latest BBB draft. Some thoughts🧵 America’s left, right & center have rare consensus: cheap, abundant, reliable electricity now underpins national strength—reshoring factories, training AI models, easing bills, hardening the grid.

As it stands, the budget bill would worsen the energy outlook for reliability & affordability, and harm our economic competitiveness & growth. It's the opposite of abundance or dominance; it would result in energy scarcity, inflation, and submission. 1/ youtube.com/watch?v=mgXIoe…

“It’s going to kill hundreds of billions of dollars in investment and hundreds of gigawatts of new supply that would otherwise help us meet rapidly growing electricity demand. Higher energy prices, less jobs, less investment in American energy production, and less confidence in

Pulling the rug out from projects that are already under construction, with significant capital expended, is particularly bad. Anti-business.

Another big statement against the Senate bill. The trade union representing 860,000 electrical workers says the bill will cost "hundreds of thousands of good-paying construction jobs." I hadn't seen this statement reported anywhere else.

The Ernst, Grassley, & Murkowski Amendment corrects several of the clean energy provisions that are most damaging to American workers, American businesses, and American energy leadership. SEIA encourages all Senators to support this amendment and thanks Joni Ernst,

From @TheIronWorkers: “In its current form this bill is the largest job-killing legislation in modern memory. It threatens more than 1.75 million construction jobs, erases over 3 billion work hours, and could wipe out $148 billion in annual wages and benefits to working people”
