My CARE Authorization Act, which I worked on with Congressman Jim Baird and is now law, specifically says that Secretary Marco Rubio SHALL appoint a Coordinator for Afghan Relocation Efforts. Last week, Secretary Rubio said he would comply with these requirements. Clearly he lied.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio informed Congress today that he’s eliminating the CARE office that resettles Afghan allies in the U.S., though he said he’d comply with the requirements within the statute. On Sunday, Afghanistan war veteran Jack McCain, son of late Sen. John

The Department of State is eliminating CARE. Staff don’t know what the future holds for their jobs. It’s still unclear what is going to happen with regard to ongoing relocation. military.com/daily-news/202…

How it's going: The State Department plans to shut down the office that helped resettle Afghan refugees who assisted the American war effort, provoking an outcry. “Eliminating it ... is a profound betrayal of American values and promises.” - #AfghanEvac bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Reporters are seeking to share anonymized stories of human impact that the executive orders have had — SIVs, refugees, family reunifications, TPS holders, and parolees are all welcome to share. Reporters may contact you. We will NOT share this with government.

A helpful chart. We know SIVs are exempt and we expect their immediate family to be exempt. We also have not seen anything that directs processing of ongoing applications to stop. More info to follow tomorrow. Signing off for tonight.

The U.S. told us to go to a third country — we came to Pakistan through their official email. 3 years later, still waiting. We passed all steps. Now the program is suspended, and we’re abandoned. Where is the promise? #Save_Afghan_Allies_P1P2 #AfghanAllies #USRAP #LetUsIn

The Trump immigration EO isn’t just about banning travel. It’s about severing families—blocking the legal reunification of spouses, kids, and siblings. And here’s the kicker: Even the State Department didn’t see it coming. Another #AfghanEvac 🧵
