Renewables projects are being developed across the Highlands yet little of the of the billions they generate finds its way into our communities. Liberal Democrats want to ensure that these projects provide minimum levels of community benefit for the communities impacted.

With waits stretching into the months and years, it’s clear that the SNP have no plan for tackling long waits for complex specialties. Ministers need to ensure that cataract surgery waits come down and people can get the care they need swiftly and close to home.

Under the SNP, access to cancer screening programmes, diagnoses and treatment is a postcode lottery across the country. Scottish Liberal Democrats want to see ministers who will move mountains to bring down waits and get to grips with the gaps in tech and staff.

Liberal Democrats have campaigned for votes at 16 across the UK for well over 20 years, so this progress is welcome. However, if ministers want to see renewal of our politics then they should start at the roots of the problem with electoral reform – so that every vote matters.

Only 8% of sewage dumping sites are monitored in Scotland. The Scottish Government needs to start finally taking the sewage crisis seriously and get tough on the government owned water company. That includes looking at whether our own system of regulation is fit-for-purpose.

Yesterday I joined Open Seas in a snorkelling trip off North Berwick, to survey some of the natural reefs off the East Coast and to discuss how we get the balance right as custodians of our oceans whilst keeping our vital fishing industry sustainable. Such a great day.

The Scottish Government need to work urgently with health boards and local authorities on a new plan to support those who are long-term sick. A plan that tackles long waits for care, invests in mental health and offers tailored advice and support for those who need it.

Waits for a driving test are far too long because bots and scammers are buying up test spots before people can book them. Both test centres in Edinburgh are seeing waits of 24 weeks. The DVSA have put in place additional measures but now we need to see waiting times cut.

Under the SNP, people are stuck in hospital, prevented from getting on with their lives. You can’t fix the NHS unless you fix care because the more patients are delayed in hospital, the longer people wait at A&E and the longer ambulances wait outside the front door.

If Trump really loves Scotland, why is he hammering Scotch whisky with tariffs? With millions regularly enjoying Scotch on both sides of the Atlantic, it’s a bridge between the US and the UK - even in the midst of Trump’s trade war. These unfair and damaging tariffs must go.

The hardworking staff at CalMac are doing their very best, but they have been let down by a chaotic SNP government that broke its promise to build new ferries on time and on budget. Someone in this SNP government must finally carry the can for repeatedly failing communities .

For women who have shared their harrowing experiences travelling to Inverness to give birth, it is action and not just warm words that is needed. The Scottish Government need to get serious about this and come up with a plan to protect the lives of mothers in the Far North.
