I am concerned about the level of paraquat resistant fleabane I am finding on the Adelaide Plains..note the green plants amongst the brown.. 150lt/ha water and 3lt paraquat hasn’t touched these.

1/2 *Gazanias* I put out a herbicide screen in August to see what might offer control..after final assessments balance amine, paradigm lontrel amine and amine glean was the best..almost perfect. We need to do more research on timing and add. Imi’s were terrible,

2/2 Gazania, glyphosate with Overwatch and talinor looked good early so could be followed by one of the selective mixes to give better control ..I hope this helps others to find some solutions Huey Oster

Pretty excited to be on tour of the Esperance region…fyi I’m seeing lots of sand, water logging and scale ..

From beans to lentils to the super pit and back to chickpeas..it has been a huge trip and so grateful for everybody’s time.

An update. 6 months on, a dry season hasn’t allowed treatments to wet up..the higher the rate of sand the less plants. Both organic matter amendments have lontrel coming out of them dramatically reducing plant numbers and biomass..

Fleabane update: after a Glufosinate mix, pre and post em spray for fleabane.. i can’t find any fresh plants just old plants..and seeds on the ground. Might be time for tillage to have a reset of old un-killable plants

Last week was the judging of the Bute wheat Competition. 7 paddocks in 6 hrs means there was lots to talk about..it was an excellent opportunity to review and learn from a challenging year…there is always something to learn.. it is also a good excuse to get off farm socially.

The capeweed in lentil trial is underway ..thanks to SAGIT for the funding. This project is looking at pre and post emergent control options spread across three sites to test solutions on different soil types and varieties.
