The capability review of the aged care regulator was given to Anika Wells MP 7 weeks ago. She said yesterday she would release the govt's response “as soon as I can manage”. Why not release the report now so we can all read and digest it before the govt response?

Thanks for this piece, Lincoln Hopper - both for its positivity about the care shown by most aged care workers, and its standing up for allied health and other workers not recognised by pay increases and manadatory staffing minutes insideageing.com.au/amid-horrific-…

Our member Speech Pathology Australia tells it like it is for so many allied health professionals in the #NDIS. NDIS $ on allied health is < 10% of total spending and yet somehow our evidence keeps getting trumped by 'price gouging' anecdotes. Not good enough @billshortenmp Allied Health Professions Australia

Good acknowledgment: allied health needs aren't explicitly assessed under the Quality Standards, so consumers miss out, contra Royal Commission. But where's the urgent recommendation? shorturl.at/uvHR0 tinyurl.com/y3x3emzm tinyurl.com/3tstxfnd

The difficulty of obtaining Taylor Swift tickets have received far more coverage than the review report outlining the devastating problems of the authority which is meant to ensure the safety of older people in aged care. And think how many health not for profits could do a lot of the same work if actually given a fraction of that funding. Instead they're often left to fix the mistakes, for no $$.

Charles Maskell-Knight Star ratings were a real opportunity to drive change. But they have been so badly implemented that they are a total waste of time. And it’s not just a data quality problem. They have been deliberately designed to make meaningful comparisons impossible. Every child wins a prize

Yes. eg on star ratings: 'The new vocabulary of social service reform became the offer of greater choice...The engine driving this imagined process was the failed idea that unhappy customers will simply exit a bad service and thus “signal” to producers [to] lift their game.'

Far from 'price gouging' claims, NDIS therapy providers have effectively had their prices cut - no indexation for 4 years now. Likely to be dire for the NDIS if allied health walks out @billshortenmp disabilitysupportguide.com.au/talking-disabi…

@BethanyinCBR I support asking taxpayers to pay more for aged care under 2 conditions. 1 Profit is regulated. 2 Consumer co-payments are based on genuine capacity to pay. Superannuation is meant to pay for our old age, not a nest egg to leave to the kids 👇

Excellent article on who to consult to add value to policy - and it isn't the Big 4. Thanks to Leanne Wells for posting on LinkedIn communitydirectors.com.au/articles/putti…

Two important pieces here on Cth Govt over-reliance on private consultancy in health policy. This strategy also tends to increase the work for grossly underfunded community and non-profit peaks who often have to educate those consultants and correct their mistakes - gratis.

The Issues Paper summarises aged care stakeholder views on what should be included in designing a new funding model for aged care, and has been provided to Minister Wells and the Aged Care Taskforce. Read the paper and AHPA's thoughts: ahpa.com.au/news-events/ac…

Ashamed this happened in the NDIS. But proud that one of our allied health providers called out the abuse. Allied health works hard to support people with disability but sometimes the NDIA doesn't recognise our key roles abc.net.au/news/2023-09-2… ABC News @dana_advocacy People with Disability Australia (PWDA)
