That Ashfield swing from Con to Reform , at 34.4, becomes, I think, the biggest ever postwar constituency swing in England Shy of the biggest Lab 2 SNP swing in 2015 (Glasgow NE 39.3) but this is the territory we're in

Ab'shire N & Moray E - result for Reform (around 15%) can partly be explained by Brexit support. This new constituency is thought to be only Sc constituency to have backed Leave in 2016. But also possible higher than ave Reform % is dissatisfaction about Duguid's treatment

If Cons on 23.5 and Lab 34.2 that is, for Con lowest ever vote share, 2nd lowest of major parties ever beating on Labour's 22.2% in 1918 And that's the lowest combined vote share for the two main parties ever 2010 65.0 2015 67.3 scores in 68s in 1922, 1923

Nigel Farage received 12% of TV/press coverage in the election. The Green Party (with 4 seats to Reform’s 5) didn’t even make top 20. Great research from Loughborough CRCC👉 @[email protected] shows Greens & smaller parties were especially marginalised by a press mesmerised by Farage’s anti-migrant noise

We could not have asked Gareth Southgate to do more for ideas of English identity. The next and greater challenge, - one that lies beyond sport - is to engage with ideas of England as a nation.
