Coaches are the heartbeat of our athletic programs. Yet too often, coaches feel unsupported and stretched thin by demands that pull them away from what they do best—coaching and mentoring young people. Servant leadership in athletics means I exist to make coaches successful.

Teacher retention: if you want to keep the best teachers, treat them like they are the best. Few teachers leave an environment where they feel valued, supported, appreciated, and treated like professionals. This is more important now than ever!

Stop trying to copy the teams with the most talent. Find the coach going 6-3 with 2-7 talent. That's the guy to learn from.

If you have poor people skills, you’re probably a poor leader. 🧽🪣

I call them soft skills. Where there is a poor leader there is a group,organization,team,and/company that is being as successful as they should be.

Teachers and administrators aren’t leaving because the job is too hard. They’re leaving because the unrealistic pressures of society keep growing, while support and respect keep fading. It’s not the job that’s unsustainable. It’s the culture we’ve built around it.

Jim Harbaugh said, "Absolutely, you can improve and become better at toughness. It's a talent, but it can be acquired, too. I think of it like building a callus." Mental toughness is earned, not inherited. It's a skill that you develop with consistency and intention.

“Are you participating? Or are you committed?" Every team practices. Every team lifts. Every team conditions. That's participating. Being committed happens before/after practice. Extra workouts. Individual skill development. Are you participating or committed?

Implement servant leadership principles more intentionally. Athletic programs are spaces where character development happens naturally. When adults model servant leadership, students learn to lead by serving others. Be that coach that lead by example. Your players are watching.
