Neil Gray, the Health Secretary, will abstain in the Assisted Dying vote tomorrow to "reflect the Government’s neutral position".

It’s a big day at Holyrood - a key vote on plans to legalise assisted dying. Supporters and an opponent argued at a rally this morning, emotions running high. More on Channel 5 News at 5.

There was some tension outside Holyrood today as MSPs took part in this significant debate. Result of the vote is due at 7pm. The expectation is that it’ll be very close.

BREAKING: MSPs back plans to legalise assisted dying in Holyrood vote. The Bill has passed the first stage with 70 votes for, 57 against. It’ll now carry on through other parliamentary stages.

Worth noting (because I’m seeing it reported incorrectly) that THIS was a vote on the general principles of the assisted dying bill. It doesn’t mean it becomes law. The Bill will now progress through stage two, stage three etc at Holyrood where there will be a lot of scrutiny.

No matter what the result on Saturday, we should be so PROUD of Remember Monday. Those vocals were flawless, the harmonies were tight and the theatrically of the staging was CAMP. You can tell they’re having the best time doing this for the UK 🇬🇧 #Eurovision

Paul Doyle, 53, from West Derby, Liverpool, has been named as the suspect behind the Liverpool parade crash. The CPS confirm he will face seven separate charges. He will appear before Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
