Venezuelan drug dealing bands menacing the government with violence supposedly defending the people. Huge risk of them taking over more power and territory. Venezuela can end up fragmented by drug dealing guerrillas.

I've just come back from #Venezuela 🇻🇪 where I spent 2.5 weeks, witnessing the run-up to the presidential vote, and what was arguably the most outrageous election steal in the modern history of Latin America. I'll share some thoughts below 🧵

Nirmalya Kajuri Honestly I love science but there are too many PhD in particular in the soft sciences. Smart young people should go out and build things. Trial and error. Learn think but then build! The future doesn't build itself.

If politicians have to convince people that they’re not socialist, it’s because they are socialist. There are videos of Fidel and Chavez (before grabbing power) assuring that they wouldn’t ever dare to expropriate/nationalize property. The rest is history.

Airports in Spain use three dimensions (number, color and letter) to identify a single dimension gate (number). They sort flights by time, which we roughly remember, instead of alphabetically which we remember with precision. The system is confusing and adds unnecessary friction.

The future is contained in the present in a biased form. The most successful innovations contain the most prevalent past behaviors. Nothing is new under the sun. We just make it easier. PS this picture is from internet. Author is Copenhagen institute for future studies.

Benoît Mandelbrot recalls learning about turbulence, mentioning the work of Andrey Kolmogorov, Werner Heisenberg, Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker, and Lars Onsager.
