There is the concern for some strong thunderstorms late this afternoon. Heavy rain and damaging winds possible, along with an isolated tornado as storms cross a warm front and interact with some enhanced low level shear. Main timeframe 3-6pm.

A tornado can't be ruled out today given relative high amounts of low level (0-3km) instability. If co-located with areas of intense upward motion, this bullseye can often be an indicator of where the risk is highest. Latest guidance suggests from PIT points south.

SPC's latest Mesoscale Discussion says at the moment, a watch is unlikely...but monitoring the potential for a few supercells.

NEW: Tornado Watch out for all of our counties south of I-80 except for Armstrong and Indiana. Brief tornadoes possible with these storms over the next 2-3 hours...in addition to very heavy rain, gusty winds, and perhaps small hail.

We will be surveying at least three areas today: * Butler county (Shanor - Northvue area) * Washington County (Chartiers Twp - N Strabane Twp) * Allegheny County (White Oak) for possible 🌪️s in the latter two. Butler was already confirmed last night with video. #pawx

Today was the coolest we've been on this date in more than 60 years. As a comparison... last year's high on May 22 was 84°! The normal is 73°

Another gloomy and unseasonably cool day across western Pennsylvania. Steady mist/drizzle this morning but showers will increase in coverage through mid-day. Should start to taper off late this afternoon with drier weather tonight and Thursday.

Since May 18th, the average temperature in Pittsburgh was a little over 56°...coolest in that stretch of dates since 2008. Also... NO 75°+ days in that stretch for the first time since 1990!!

Another blah May day. Steady rain returns this afternoon, with the potential for locally heavy rain south of I-70 closer to the Mason-Dixon line. Also can't rule out a gusty storm or two (along with a brief spin-up) over these areas where dynamics will be most supportive.

NOT AGAIN!! If this forecast verifies, it would be the tied-coolest May 31st in Pittsburgh in over 100 years. The last time it was cooler on that date was back in 1910, when we only reached 45 degrees.

SPC has nudged the lowest tornado probability (2%) a bit further north to include areas right along the Mason-Dixon line. A low risk, but there may be just enough narrow instability to favor a rotating updraft over our far southern tier areas this afternoon.

Steadier showers now pushing east of Pittsburgh as a cold front blew through. Behind the front, unusually chilly air is in place today with most neighborhoods stuck in the 50s! As skies clear & winds lighten tonight, a few spots may dip into the upper 30s Sunday morning (June 1)!

Aaaand it's back. Wildfire smoke plumes from Canada will be visible at times over the next few days. At the moment, doesn't look low enough for air quality concerns.
